This resource is designed to support candidates in the accelerated Science and Math: Teachers Needed! program through the University of Cincinnati. Persons interested in becoming a science or mathematics teacher will find material that will be helpful as they make the decision to pursue credentials to enter the teaching profession. Specifically information is provided about the Teachers Needed sequence of courses that leads to the Provisional License. The same sequence of courses supports the State of Ohio requirements for the Alternative Educator License or AEL. The AEL can be acquired by a school district for a person who has a suitable undergraduate degree, grade point average, the knowledge to pass the Praxis II content test for a teaching field, and a minimal number of education course credits. The AEL is valid for only two years, during which the candidate needs to complete additional education course requirements, pass the Praxis PLT test, and be recommended for a Provisional License by a school district. Information is also posted here for the Foreign Languages: Teachers Needed! AEL program.

The Teachers Needed program leads to full licensure in mathematics or any of the sciences allowing the candidate to teach in grades 7 through 12. A final induction experience or “student teaching” is required in a school. These accelerated programs are for candidates who have strong content backgrounds and who typically have had experience working with youths, allowing them to quickly become a productive and valued teacher.
